This project helped me understand that music is within all of us, and it's what brings society together. Music influences us in our everyday lives, and if music never existed, the world wouldn't ever be the same. So let's appreciate music and let it shine!
ENGLISH
I began my English portion by researching poems based off of musicals. It was hard to find them at first, but my teacher helped me find some by showing me a website that contained poems based off of musicals. I analyzed six poems, and three were from the musical Cats. I used the writings, The Song Of The Jellicles, Old Deuteronomy, and Macavity: The Mystery Cat. Another poem came from The Marco Polo Musical known as Kubla Khan: Xanadu. My other poem from The Man From Snowy River: Arena Spectacular. The musical is called The Man From Snowy River. The last poem came from that musical The Odyssey, A Modern sequel extract 2. The musical is called Home Sweet Horner. I used the SOAPSTone Method on all six of the poems. I then highlighted parts of the poems that I could use to create a new poem. After I chose certain verses, I started to put them together, and I thought of an immeasurable tale. So, my story was about a Man and his Stead who are criminals that steal from a village and live in the mountains.
The hardest part of this project was attempting to combine them to create one poem. A lot of them these poems come from musicals with different backgrounds, so it was difficult trying to think of a story that can be formed from six distinctive poems. The information I and Mrs. Goodrich found was great, and I think without that one website, this project would have been harder to do. Overall, I think the English portion was fantastic, and I thought it was cool using the SOAPSTone Method. |
SOCIAl studies
For the history portion, I created music on GarageBand. I incorporated music from diverse cultures to create music that would bring society together. I wrote about how I amalgamated and used reasonings on how the musical instruments from the cultures I have picked would be transcendent. I chose to synthesize African music because of the great percussion, Brazilian/Cuban because of the rhythmic pattern and Eastern Asian because of the bass and solo moments. I think when I synthesized all those cultures, it formed a great sound with a nice tempo, rhythm, and joy. I made 16 versions of the music, some were pretty good, and others were pretty bad. I'm still pretty proud of what I made, and I'm glad I made diversity with music culture.
The hardest part of this project was making the music in GarageBand. The music process was very troublesome because musical instruments would go together while others wouldn't work with each other. I also had to figure out a pace that would match with all these cultures. The best tempo was fast and made it have a unique beat.

Art
For the art portion, I chose to something on musicals. I thought of doing an art project on musicals and making a scene. Since I had to use synthesis in my project, I combined two musicals that I know and love. The performances I preferred for my project was Catch Me If You Can and Beauty and The Beast. I then decided to make a Venn diagram that compared both the main characters from each musical and how they shared the same characteristics. I used both the main characters, Frank and Belle, to make a scene at an airport in France. Frank goes to an airport in France to get on a plane to New York to visit his family but gets pushed and his suitcase breaks. He goes to a bench and tries to fix it, and Belle shows up asking to sit next to him while she waits for her father. They then start talking about their life, where they grew up, and the people in their lives.
I think the hardest part of this project was seeing how Belle and Frank would react upon seeing each other. I even had to figure out Frank's and Bell's characteristics since that sets the mood of my scene. Another hard part was figure outing the setting without giving away who the characters were too easy.
Overall, I thought creating the scene was fun because I got to undertake what producers do every day to perform the perfect artwork. The project helped me decided on my plans for college and musical theatre. I think theatre is another part of society that brings different kinds of people together to perform something that they enjoy doing.

Synthesis
The synthesis was the thinking skill for this project and fused my aspects by combing music, musical theatre, and musical poems. Music is what brings society together and makes people feel good about themselves. I chose this to do this project because I love music and musical theatre. Ever since I was little, I've been surrounded by music from both my parent's side, and it's been a fundamental characteristic in my family. One of my favorite parts of this project was to combine musical instruments from different cultures to create new music. Of course, it was challenging because not all music cultures are identical, but when you try to balance them out, it becomes pure music. Another notion was making a scene that synthesized two musicals that I know and love. I even added a little bit of comedy into it. One more thing I fancied about the project was creating my writing based off of the musicals. For one, I never knew poetry could be based on musicals, so I was astonished while I was researching. I thought synthesizing my poem was fun and very creative for my last language arts piece. As previously stated, music helps make society what it is today. Without music, the world wouldn't be the same. I hope you enjoyed this information about my synthesize involved with music, musical theatre, and musical poems. Let The Music Fill Your Soul!
